Competition

There’s always competition to any new business, even if that competition is the user doing nothing. Last week Evgeny and I went to meet some of our competition in London: Mendeley. Mendeley have a similar concept to Kappa Prime but with a different ethos; while Kappa Prime is focused on a web based service, Mendeley offer client software to download and install on your PC. Their belief is there is a colossal amount of processing power spread between desktop PCs, mobile phones, laptops etc. that’s going to waste. Their client software processes and parses PDFs allowing you to manage your bibliography locally.

We met Mendeley at their office in North East London, and had some interesting conversations about managing bibliographies and sharing data.

While on the topic of competition we thought we’d put together an informal list of other websites overlapping with the aims of Kappa Prime and Mendeley.

If you can think of any others please post them in a comment.
